A quick dragon-ish concept that I'm playin' with.

Here are a couple of oddballs from my sketchbook...the bottom one reminds me of the Bugs Bunny/ Jekyll and Hyde spoof.

Yep, more sketches in the morning to clear my brain and settle my hand for the afternoon. Just a critter that sorta evolved from a smudge already on the paper.

Here's a pencil of a piece done for MTG. I believe this one was to illustrate an artifact type creature being destroyed.

I don't know.... I'm calling it the Egge Wytch. Just something to warm up with. The whites are a bit blown in the scan(fixed scan 11/23). Now I'm gonna go eat an egg sammich.

Hi everyone, sorry that i'm out of the loop right now but I'm knee deep in a very time consuming project. I just wanted to say hi and thank everyone for the emails regarding my book "The Witches Kitchen" which was released just today.

Here is another Magic card that has apparently escaped the dungeon so I guess it's ok to claim it now.

Another sketch while bumping along in the passenger seat. It was a long drive...43 hours...each way.

A sketch I did while on the road back from SDCC. I met a ton of inspirational people this year, artists, art directors and movie producers. It looks like i might be doing some concept work in the future, though with movies how far in the future is always up in the air.

Since the pre-Release was yesterday I can show the MTG cards that I did for M11. It's called Maritime Guard in the game. I've been calling it Dark Tide. This piece will be in Spectrum 17.

Here is a detail of my Beauty and the Beast painting from the IMC. I'm still working on it between my other obligations and I'll have it with me at SDCC but I'll probably be working on it there as well.

I recently recieved a pdf showing the final design of my book jacket. The Witches Kitchen will be released in september 2010. I wrote about 55,000 words and made about 40 illustrations for this book. The color will shift a bit but since my editor at Little Brown gave the ok to show it I couldn't wait any longer.

Here is the pencil that I worked up for the Illustration Master Class in Amherst. I had a great time, the teachers were incredibly generous with information and advice and the other attendees where great fun to hang around. I wanted to put up a good scan of this piece...it goes to a new home next week.

Here's a random sketch from one of my sketchbooks. The scan is a little contrasty but hopefully I'll soon have access to better scanning equipment. I aquired a scitex scanner...old tech but strictly speaking still closer to production quality than what I'm using now.

Here's a pencil piece that I was working on recently. It is now deceased... An ink spill in the studio. I will, however, attempt it again as this was not even close to the finish.

Microvisions

Here's the Wildcard pencil that I posted previously, finished in a frame. I think I may need to take the glass out of the frame to make it more visible.

A detail of the body of the beast. This is just the first stage of the pencil but I'll be done with it in about a week. I'm working on other pieces at the same time.

I've been a bit under the weather this week but I'm still picking away at this gnarled creature, when my sinus pain let's me focus, that is.

Here is a detail of a Dragon piece. Part of a commission and just having some fun. In this day, with so many Dragons out there, I believe the key is thinking of them as a genre and bringing some sort of personality out of the beast.

This is a wip for the back image for a deck of poker cards I want to produce. The scan is a bit dark. There will be a graphic on the left side.

Here is my submission for Microvisions, which for those of you who haven't heard, is a charity exhibit and auction organized by Irene Gallo and Dan Dosantos. There are some incredible artists involved and I feel amazed and humbled to be able to show(virtual and actual-the pieces will be displayed in a mini gallery exhibit) with them. The proceeds from the auction of the art goes for scholarships awarded to student artists. If you haven't, check out Irene's blog as the images come in, pick someones work and bid away when the auction opens on ebay!

Another piece from my upcoming book "The Witches Kitchen" pubbed by Little Brown and releasing in sept. This is digitally composited pencil work for the most part, with some "Painter" thrown in at the end.

I finally got some time to get further on this dragon commission. Looks sorta like a hybrid eastern, western style. All pencil on arches HP.

Here is a spot illo for an upcoming ya story publishing in September. Done in pencil on classic ecrue paper.
